Prayer Network

OUR Purpose & Role

The Prayer Network exists to foster and coordinate a strong, denomination-wide prayer effort that undergirds God’s work through the Global Methodist Church in fulfilling its mission and vision.

The network supports and strengthens prayer across the church by resourcing and mentoring regional prayer leaders in annual conferences and emerging areas, encouraging consistent prayer coverage, and promoting a culture of prayer throughout the life of the denomination. We also work in cooperation with the Connectional Council for support and accountability.

Through regular connection, leadership development, and collaboration, the Prayer Network helps ensure that prayer remains a vital and active foundation for the work of the Church.

Who We Are

The Prayer Network consists of an Executive Team and Annual Conference Prayer Leaders, both laity and clergy, from across the Global Methodist Church.

HOW WE ARE GROWING

The Prayer Network is currently proposing changes and clarifications on how to best govern and work in cooperation with the Connectional Council for support and accountability.  While the work of the team will continue, additional structure is needed to accommodate our growing church. The following elements have been identified to successfully transition our network into a formal committee structure.

Composition

The Prayer Network Committee shall consist of an Executive Team along with other members drawn from the Global Methodist Church.

  1. Members of the Prayer Network Committee, comprising both laity and clergy, will have demonstrated significant prayer leadership in their annual conferences and/or beyond.
  2. Potential committee members may be identified by their conference superintendent, bishop, or by other committee members. They would be vetted by current committee members.
  3. Members who resign or are removed for non-participation or other cause shall be replaced through the nomination and election process above (1 and 2). No member can serve longer than 10 years and it is recommended a minimum of 3 years.
  4. The Executive Team shall elect the chair and vice-chair of the Prayer Network Committee from among its members.
  5. When invited, the Chair of the Executive Directors or Chair designee shall attend in-person gatherings with the Assembly of Bishops, COO, Commission Chairs, and the Connectional Council.

Responsibilities

The Prayer Network Committee shall have the following responsibilities:

  1. To foster and coordinate a strong prayer effort that is denomination-wide to undergird God’s work through the church in fulfilling its mission and vision.
  2. To resource and mentor regional prayer leaders in every annual conference and emerging area.
  3. To hold regular virtual prayer meetings for prayer leaders of Annual Conferences, TCATs, and Emerging Regions for times of encouragement, vision casting, and edification to equip and strengthen the church’s prayer coverage.
  4. To develop, recommend and promote resources for strengthening prayer in local churches, and annual conferences.
  5. To designate members of the committee to serve as non-voting representatives on other general church commissions as needed, requested, and able, especially on the General Conference Commission, to ensure optimal prayer coverage of the important deliberations and direction of each commission.
  6. To work through the Chair of the Connectional Council for support and accountability regarding the Prayer Network’s ministry including submitting an annual budget through the Chair of the Connectional Council.
