ORDINATION

Achieving commissioned ministry leadership

Ordination in the Global Methodist Church

Ordination in the Global Methodist Church is a sacred act through which the Church recognizes, confirms, and sets apart individuals whom God has called to ordained ministry. Rooted in Scripture and the historic practice of the Christian Church, ordination affirms both a divine calling and the gifts, graces, character, and competencies necessary for faithful leadership in Christ’s Church.

The Global Methodist Church understands ordained ministry as a covenantal relationship between the individual, the Church, and God. Those seeking ordination participate in a process of discernment, preparation, examination, and accountability designed to ensure readiness for ministry. Throughout this journey, candidates are encouraged to deepen their spiritual life, demonstrate faithful discipleship, and develop the theological and practical skills needed for effective service.

Ordained clergy in the Global Methodist Church serve as deacons or elders. Through ordination, they are entrusted with specific responsibilities in the life of the Church, including leadership in worship, proclamation of the Word, administration of the sacraments, pastoral care, disciple-making, and equipping the people of God for ministry. While all Christians are called to ministry through baptism, ordination recognizes those who have been set apart for particular leadership within the Body of Christ.

The ordination process is guided by the conviction that ministry is both a gift and a calling. Candidates undergo a careful evaluation of their spiritual maturity, doctrinal understanding, personal character, leadership abilities, and commitment to the mission and doctrine of the Global Methodist Church. This process reflects the Church’s responsibility to discern and affirm those whom God is calling to serve.

Because the process of candidacy, preparation, and ordination is administered through the Annual Conferences of the Global Methodist Church, individuals who believe they may be called to ordained ministry should begin by connecting with their local Annual Conference. Conference leaders can provide guidance regarding discernment, candidacy requirements, educational pathways, and the steps necessary to pursue ordination.

Ultimately, ordination is not merely recognition of personal achievement but an act of the Church in response to God’s call. It is a commitment to lifelong service, faithful leadership, and partnership in the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ and spreading scriptural holiness across the globe.
