Recommended Strategic Plan and Budget - Wes Griffin
Today’s business is to approve a recommended strategic plan and budget to the new commission who will finalize a plan and budget to submit to the Connectional Council. The new commission will begin November 1 and meet with Mike Schaeffer November 5.
This recommendation summarizes the years of work done to date, noting its alignment with the GMC Strategic Plan Framework.
Wes reviewed each section of the recommended strategic plan and budget. A correction will be made at the end of each section to reflect “2026 Budget” and “2027 Recommended Budget” in place of “2025 Budget” and “2026 Recommended Budget.”
Simon noted that African regional teams have budget needs that aren’t currently met and requested they be considered in the recommended budget. Wes affirmed this need is reflected in the recommended 2027 Church Multiplication budget.
Simon noted the difficulties in data collection and recording as it applies to church plants and the need to train people how to provide that data. Wes explained this effort is still under development and confirmed he and others will continue to promote further development of the database and data collection.
The decrease in the Disaster Response budget is due to the creation of a special fund, separate from the Commission’s fund, to address disaster response and humanitarian needs. However, the 2027 budget reflects a small increase in other line items.
The General Budget and total budget reflect increases necessary to accommodate a large and geographically diverse Commission, notably significant increases in travel-related expenses.
Approval of Strategic Plan and Budget
Kabah Kasongo Mwenze motioned to approve the recommended 2027 strategic plan and budget. The motion was seconded by Simon Mafunda. There was no discussion. It was unanimously approved by those present and via email by Terry Vanderslice, Paul Lawler, and Luciano Pereira da Silva.
