Discipleship, Doctrine, and Just Ministry Meeting
July 23, 2026
Present: David Watson, Kenneth Collins, Kathy Rohrs, Suzanne Nicholson, Tesia Mallory, Luther Oconer, Bulus Audu Daniel, Bishop Scott Jones. GMC Rep: Teresa Marcus.
David opened the meeting in prayer. Kathy made a motion to approve the May minutes, and it was approved. There were no other action items in this meeting.
The meeting was focused on discussion around petitions coming to General Conference, particularly the Articles of Faith and other doctrinal matters. In addition, there was a discussion about the desire for a sub-team focused on ministry with young & young adults in the next iteration of this commission, and a conversation around funding for this work emerged. While the commission has focused on doctrine in the first two years, Bishop Jones shared the importance of discipleship as a priority in future years.
Kathy explained the commission's work on defining accountable discipleship, noting they brought together diverse perspectives to create a working definition that could help track and implement this concept in local churches.
Teresa clarified that new commission members will take over responsibilities starting January 1, 2027, with transition meetings planned for October and November.
