  • “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” (Charles Wesley, 1747) — This hymn, which is no. 88 in the hymnal Our Great Redeemer’s Praise (Seedbed), is a favorite hymn of many Global Methodists and expresses our expectation of becoming a community of believers who live in God’s holiness. The second verse asks God to “take away our bent to sinning, Alpha and Omega be.” The fourth verse expresses a desire for being made completely holy (what we also call entire sanctification): “Finish then Thy new creation, pure and spotless let us be.” Consider reading or singing the hymn together during one or more of the remaining sessions.


  • Our Assembly of Bishops, knowing how important scriptural holiness is to the GMC’s identity, produced a teaching series on scriptural holiness in 2025 on the heels of the inaugural General Conference in Costa Rica the previous year. The group may find watching these videos together or as a suggested assignment before the next session helpful in understanding the call to scriptural holiness.


  • Bonus activity – After having watched the videos, use newsprint or other means to make two lists as a group: “What Scriptural Holiness Is Not” and “What Scriptural Holiness Is.” Use those lists as a guide for practicing how to describe scriptural holiness to friends, family, and other Christians who might not be familiar with the idea yet.
